Our principal Richard Goodliffe was appointed head of construction project for the CWG2022 International Broadcast Centre (IBC).
Responsible for the temporary construction of 3500 square metres of broadcasting space including galleries, MCR, edit suites, voice booths, server room and associated office spaces to support the host broadcaster Sunset+Vine and the rights holder broadcasters including the BBC, ABU, SkyNZ, Channel 7, Supersport.
Located in Hall 2 of the national Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, which also housed outside broadcast trucks to provide local production space for local production space of events taking place at the NEC. The major challenge for this production, was the speed of construction and the scale of the event.
The Project Included:
The facilities were constructed over three weeks – including all of the containment for the technical cables which consisted of large high level open baskets to allow for a quick cable install.
The facilities were removed in one week after the closing ceremony, working in stages following the broadcast engineers on a phased basis after they removed the technical cabling.
